I have just downloaded the GMC’s new learning log app. It is free. It’s available from the App Store and Google Play. Just search ‘GMC’ and you easily find it. It’s designed for Apple and Android portable devices and works well on my iphone. Judging by the comments on the GMC website, it doesn’t work on Windows mobile devices.
Once you have downloaded the app there is a quick registration process and you are then ready to record your CPD. There are quite a few boxes and tags to consider, but the app lets you fill in the parts you want to fill in and miss out the parts that you don’t really understand (in my case). It is intuitive and you can make very quick notes. That’s good! If IT is to help us become more efficient in meeting the needs of appraisal, it needs to be quick and easy to use.
I haven’t tried this yet, but when you are nearing your appraisal date, you can export the contents of the learning log to a PDF.
The app even features advice on subjects like reflection and how to prepare for your appraisal. Although nice to have, the advice is rather superficial and would benefit from more solid details. None-the-less, GMC My CPD is a really welcome initiative! It makes the job of recording CPD a little more efficient and I do not hesitate to recommend it to you.
